The impact

"I grew up in a cycle of abuse, addiction, and instability. By 17, I was using pain pills and synthetic drugs, and by my early 20s, I was deep into meth, crack, and heroin—sometimes with my own father. My addiction led to jail time, multiple overdoses, and broken relationships with my family, especially my sister and grandparents. After years of failed rehab attempts, I found Stable Recovery—and everything changed. I started working at Winstar, first in the training barn, then in the broodmare division. The work grounded me, and for the first time, I found purpose. Today, I’m proud to be part of the Stable Recovery team as assistant program director. I’ve gone from running from probation to running a house that helps others heal. Stable Recovery didn’t just help me get clean—it gave me a second chance at life. "

"I grew up in Philly with a good family and a passion for sports and horses, but I struggled with anxiety and feeling like I didn’t belong. By my teens, I was drinking and using drugs to escape. Over time, that led to addiction, strained relationships, and the loss of access to my kids. Even after years of trying to stay sober on maintenance meds, I relapsed hard and spiraled into guilt, isolation, and daily drug use. After ignoring multiple chances to get help, I nearly lost everything—including my life. Stable Recovery gave me the foundation to rebuild. I returned after a relapse, committed this time, and leaned into the work and fellowship. Through it all, I’ve grieved, grown, and found purpose. After graduating the School of Horsemanship I worked for Godolphin for a year. In February 2025, I accepted the position as the assistant for Brad Cox at Turfway. I am blessed beyond belief, and none of this would have been possible without God and the help of Stable Recovery."

"I didn’t grow up around addiction. I had a good childhood, never thought I’d end up with a drug problem but at 30, I tried meth for the first time, and it took over my life. I landed in prison three times, lost everything, including my kids, and felt completely defeated. That’s when I made the decision to change. After Recovery Works, I came to Stable Recovery, and for the first time, I found the structure and discipline I had been missing. I started working at Taylor Made, but health issues forced me to step away from horse work. Thankfully, Stable Recovery offered me a role, and I’ve been here ever since. Today, I’m sober, employed, and, most importantly, I’ve reconnected with 5 of my children and 2 grandchildren. Stable Recovery helped me rebuild my life, one step at a time."

"Growing up in a small Kentucky town, I never felt like I fit in. I started drinking and using drugs at a young age. What was recreational for others quickly became a daily escape for me. I had a stepdad who raised me, but struggled with abandonment, always looking for validation because my biological father left me early in life, and I bounced between treatment centers trying to find my way. After a relapse in Lexington, I spiraled into fentanyl and methamphetamine use, ending up in psychosis and jail. I had no one left; my mom had passed, and I was completely alone. That’s when I found Stable Recovery. After detox, I started the School of Horsemanship and later began working at WinStar. I was a groom in the broodmare division for over a year before taking over the position as the School of Horsemanship Coordinator. Stable Recovery didn’t just help me get clean, it gave me structure, purpose, and a new beginning."
