Stable Recovery Trains People in Rehab – The Daily Younder

Tyler Harris has been to rehab six times in the last 10 years. At one point, he had nearly five years of sobriety. But he could never get it to stick.

“My normal thing is, I’ll stay sober for 30, 60, 90 days after [treatment],” Harris said in an interview with the Daily Yonder. “But then I fall back into my old ways so quickly it’s not even funny.”

This time, he’s trying something new. Harris is one of 26 men currently participating in the Stable Recovery program in Lexington, Kentucky. The program combines housing and recovery support with job training that prepares participants to work in the equine industry.

“I’m surrounded by a bunch of great individuals and around these beautiful animals and working in a beautiful place, giving me a lot of hope. And dogs are great and listen, and Moose (the dog) and I have taken a very keen liking to each other, to say the least,” Nick Legnon, who attends Stable Recovery said.

Stable Recovery’s Spring Meet Gala took place on Saturday night at Spy Coast Farm in Lexington, KY. The program is celebrating 10 months in operation.

If you aren’t familiar with Stable Recover y , it began with the founding of the School of Horsemanship, which was created to teach those who were facing problems with addiction to learn how to train horses. After the hiring of Christian Countzler, Stable Recovery was officially founded to provide a safe and stable living environment for men in early recovery. Think DV8 Kitchen but with horses. Just an awesome cause trying to curve the opioid problem that currently runs rampant in the state of Kentucky.

At its core, this is what Kentucky sports are all about; helping others out to ensure team success. The men who make their way to Stable Recovery aren’t just a team, but a brotherhood. When they spend every minute of every day being each other’s keeper, they make relationships that will span lifetimes.

New racing/pinhooking stable Ready Made Racing won its first race and gave Will Walden his first victory as a trainer when their filly Dazzlingdominika won in her second start by a length in a five-furlong maiden special weight May 13 at Churchill Downs.

Ready Made Racing was created to pinhook 2-year-olds at the racetrack instead of at the sales. The concept is the brainchild of Walden and Frank Taylor, with Taylor Made Farm, who secured investors to support the venture. Walden and Taylor saw an opportunity with maiden races being written at Kentucky tracks for horses that sold or were bought back for $45,000 or less at their most recent sale.
